School Rules

  1. Flag Raising Ceremony

    1. The flag-raising ceremony is conducted at 7.30 a.m. and all students must be present.

    2. Students who are Singapore Citizens must sing the National Anthem and take the Pledge. Students will take the Pledge with the right fist placed over the heart.

    3. Students who are non-Singapore citizens must show respect by standing at attention when the National Anthem is sung and the Pledge is taken.

  2. Attendance and Punctuality

    1. Attendance in school is compulsory. Students are required to be in school by 7.30 a.m. Attendance will be taken by the first period of the day.

    2. Absence from school must be accompanied by a medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner registered with the Singapore Medical Council.

    3. Absence from school must be supported with a letter of explanation by parents (only up to twice a term) for pupils who are unwell and are self-medicated at home by parents; or due to an unforeseen circumstances.

    4. Students must be punctual for school. Students who arrive in school after 7.30 a.m. are considered late. Their late-coming will be entered and monitored in the school system.

    5. Students must not leave the school compound during school hours or before remedial lessons or co-curricular activities or any other school-organised activities unless permission is given by the school.

    6. Students leaving the school before dismissal time must be accompanied by their parents or caregivers, and reasons for leaving the school must be recorded in the ‘Permission to Leave’ form available from the General Office.

  3. Attire and Grooming

    1. School Uniform

      1. Students are to wear the prescribed school uniform and modification to the uniform is not allowed.

      2. Students must be in school uniform at all times when in school or participating in activities organised by the school.

      3. Students must be neatly groomed, e.g. school uniform should be clean and neat at all times.

      4. For safety reasons, students are not allowed to wear personal or religious adornments, accessories, or any jewellery pieces (rings, bracelets, necklaces, fancy watches and earrings etc.). Girls are only permitted to wear simple ear studs (plain design). No protruding ear stick is allowed.

      5. Students must practise personal hygiene and wash their hands with soap before meal times etc. They must keep their fingernails short and clean without any nail polish.

      6. Students must wear only plain full black canvas shoes without white or coloured trimmings or designs.

    2. Hair for boys

      1. Male students must be neat in appearance, clean-shaven and no facial hair is allowed.

      2. Male students must keep their hair short and evenly cut above the collar and ears.

      3. Outlandish hairstyles and coloured hair are not allowed.

      4. Male students must keep their fringe short which should not touch the eyebrows or ears.

    3. Hair for girls

      1. Female students are encouraged to keep their hair short above the shoulders; and if hair is shoulder length or longer, it should be tied or plaited neatly using darkcoloured ribbons, hair clips or hair bands.

      2. Female students must keep their fringe short which should not touch the eyebrows or ears.

      3. Outlandish hairstyles and coloured hair are not allowed.

  4. Use of Mobile Devices
    While we discourage students from bringing mobile phones, we understand that some parents/guardians prefer to have their children carry mobile phones for the convenience of communication and safety, especially children travelling alone on public transport or commuting long distances to and from school.
    Please refer to the following guidelines and instructions on the appropriate use of mobile devices, including mobile phones, during school hours.

    1. Students are allowed to use their mobile devices before and after school hours at the Foyer, Concourse or General Office to contact their parents or caregivers and not for the purpose of entertainment (playing games, recording still or moving images or surfing the internet). Restriction on the use of mobile devices applies to students during all school activities including excursions, camps and co-curricular activities.

    2. Students should bear responsibility for safekeeping of devices. The school will not be responsible for any loss, theft or damage to their mobile devices.

    3. Students are not allowed to bring their mobile devices into the examination rooms for both oral and written assessments.

    4. In the event of unauthorised or unpermitted use of a mobile device, the school reserves the right to confiscate the device (including SIM card) and disciplinary actions will be taken. Parents will be informed to attend a meeting with the school to collect the mobile device.

    5. Repeat offenders, will be barred from bringing any mobile device to school.

    6. Mobile devices include, but not limited to, mobile phones, tablet computers, laptops, smartphones and/or smartwatches or any devices capable of recording still or moving images.

  5. Prohibited Items

    1. Students are not allowed to have in their possession any weapon. They are also not allowed to bring any weapon-like item which is used or intended to be used to cause harm to others (this includes scissors and penknives).

    2. Students are not allowed to bring electronic games, toys, trading cards or any other expensive items to school.

    3. Should any student bring prohibited items to school, the school reserves the right to confiscate the items. Parents will be informed to meet with the school to collect the item.

  6. Consequences for Misconduct

    1. All students are expected to demonstrate good behaviour at all times. As part of our educational process to bring out the best in every child, the school has put in place appropriate learning consequences for any misbehaviour.

    2. Students who fail to abide by the school rules will be managed according to the school’s disciplinary procedures.

    3. For serious offences, disciplinary actions may include, but not restricted to, suspension (out-of-class or out-of-school), caning and conduct grade adjustment; and/or any other consequences deemed necessary and appropriate by the school. Serious offences which breach the law will be handled accordingly. All actions taken by the school will be in the best interests of our students, school staff and community. The following are examples of serious offences.

      1. Bullying/Cyberbullying - A repeated pattern of behaviour where a student or group intentionally targets others to cause distress. It can be cyber, physical, social/relational or verbal in nature

      2. Disruptive Behaviour / Open Defiance

      3. Leaving School Grounds without Permission / Truancy

      4. Consumption / possession / distribution of cigarettes / e-vaporisers and other illegal substances

      5. Theft, possession of weapons and other offences that are a breach of the law

      6. Cheating in any form (e.g. in assessments, tests or examinations)

    4. For minor offences, consequences may include reflection, behavioural contract, corrective work, and other appropriate measures deployed for behavioural change. The following are examples of minor offences:

      1. Using vulgar language with peers

      2. Skipping classes / Late coming

      3. Not doing assignments

      4. Improper attire and grooming

    5. Repeated/multiple minor offences despite warnings/reminders, may be considered as “Open Defiance” under Serious Offence and the relevant consequences will be carried out. Note: Students will require a minimum overall conduct grade of ‘GOOD’ to receive school and MOE awards.
